User Types

There are four types of users in web2school, Students, Guardians, Teachers and Administrators. Above these users is a Superuser that always has access to everything. For each type of user there is a template or a series of defaults that are setup by the system administrator. Whenever you add a Student, Guardian or Personnel person to the system you can then configure them as a user. Users can only be people who have been added to the system as a Student, Guardian or Personnel. However, until you have configured their passwords and permissions, they cannot access the system.

NOTE: You must configure User Defaults before configuring any individual users.

Students can only access data for themselves.

Guardians can only access data about their own children and only those pieces of data for which they have permission. Guardians would not normally access your system unless you have opened it up to the internet and given each guardian a user name and password.

Teachers can only access data for a single year, generally the current school year. They cannot modify any configuration or setup data. They are designated as teachers when they are added under Personnel and the Faculty check box is checked. Teachers can only view students with whom they are associated. Associations are created by a teacher having the same homeroom number as a group of students, by the teacher grade book or by the teacher's class rosters in the master schedule.

Administrators can access one or more years and can access all parts of the system. A person is designated as an Administrator when he/she is added under Personnel and the Administrator check box is checked.

Before configuring users you should setup defaults for each type of user. Once that is finished it make setting up individual users much easier.
