Assign List Of Homerooms

Most schools assign students either to a teacher (for elementary schools) or a Homeroom (for middle and high schools). Homerooms can be associated with teachers on the Personnel Information Window - Homeroom Tab. Using the Assign Global Data - List of Homerooms tool, you can assign students to selected homerooms either randomly or alphabetically. All students in the school may be assigned at once to the selected list of homerooms, or students may be assigned by year of graduation, gender, or a sub-category

If you are assigning all homerooms, make sure all the homerooms in the list are valid. Unwanted homerooms that are not linked to any students or personnel may be deleted under Setup - Homerooms.

Be sure you have enough homerooms and seating for the number of students you are assigning.

Steps to Assign Students to Homerooms Randomly

1. Click on the Tools Menu, select Global, then select Homerooms.
2. Click on the Homerooms Menu and select List of Homerooms.
3. Click in the box beside the homerooms to which you are assigning students, or you may Select All. Click OK.
4. In the next window, the homerooms you selected will display in a list on the left. You may choose to Modify List or create New List by clicking the buttons above the list.
5. There is no limit required for the number of students who may be randomly placed into a homeroom. Students will be balanced across the listed homerooms. However, you may place your cursor in the Max Seating field beside a homeroom and type in a limit if needed. You will see a warning if there are more students than seats available.
6. Click on the arrow in the Assign Data To: field to see the list of options available. You may select Student, YOG, Gender, Category, or All Students. For each option in the Assign Data To: field there are corresponding selections that must be made.

If you selected Student, the Student Search window displays for you to select students to assign.

If you selected Year of Graduation, click in the box next to the year(s) of graduation to be assigned.

If you selected Category, click in the Category field and select a category. Then click the box beside the appropriate Sub-Categories listed.

If you selected All Students you do not need to provide any additional information

7. Click Randomly Assign to begin assigning.

Steps to Assign Students to Homerooms Alphabetically

1. Click on the Tools Menu, select Global, then select Homerooms.
2. From the Homerooms Menu, select List of Homerooms.
3. Click in the box beside the homerooms to which you are assigning students, or you may Select All. Click OK.
4. In the next window, the homerooms you selected will display in a list on the left. You may choose to Modify List or create New List by clicking the buttons above the list.
5. At the bottom of the screen in the Assign: box, click Alphabetically.
6. You must set a limit for the number of students who may be alphabetically placed into each homeroom. Place your cursor in the Max Seating field over the Set Limit and type in the maximum number of students that may be assigned to each homeroom.
7. Click on the arrow in the Assign Data To: field to see the list of options available. You may select Student, YOG, Gender, Category, or All Students. For each option in the Assign Data To: field there are corresponding selections that must be made.
8. If you selected Student, the Student Search window displays for you to select students to assign.
9. If you selected YOG, click in the box next to the year(s) of graduation to be assigned.
10. If you selected Gender, click in the box next to gender to be assigned.
11. If you selected Category, select the appropriate Category, then click the box next to the desired sub-category(ies).
12. If you selected All Students, you do not need to provide any additional information.
13. Click Alphabetically Assign to begin assigning. If you have selected more students than there is seating available, you will be asked if you wish to continue.
